Modern extension to Grade II Listed Old Rectory

Our brief was to design an extension providing a contemporary kitchen, living space, allied to an existing Grade II Rectory.  We reused the existing garage structure to the north and by replacing the roof structure and raising the eaves, we provided sufficient space for a large family kitchen.
A contemporary oak cruck framed extension was added to the south, affording large areas of glazing and majestic views over open countryside.  It is linked to the converted garage via a discreet flat roofed extension.  These works were limited to the Victorian element of the original house, thus limiting the loss of fabric to that period of the building’s historical development.  Despite the contemporary appearance, the extended structure rests beautifully against the original property.
Otherwise, the house has been fully modernised and refurbished to provide a five-bedroom family home.
